The markets ended the day on a positive note. Weakness in Asian markets saw the index drop to a low of 16,571. Once again, the Sensex regained strength and surged 170 points from the low to close at 16,741. All the sectoral and broader indices closed the day in green. Auto, Realty and Capital Goods indices witnessed maximum buying interest as they closed more than one percentage points in green. The Sensex closed the day in green gaining 169.81 points or 1.02 percentage points to close at 16,741.84. Nifty ends the day at 5019.85 gaining 49.65 points or 1 percentage points. Market breadth was positive with 1,663 advances against 1,097 declines on BSE. On the global front, European stocks fell, led by energy companies, as the U.S. opened criminal and civil investigations into BP Plc’s Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Asian shares dropped after Japan’s prime minister resigned, while U.S. futures rose.
